Colour me Rhubarb – the significance of colour

Colour is everywhere around us and colours play a huge part in our lives – they influence our thinking, impact our moods and can even inspire our decision-making. They are much more powerful than we think and the psychology behind colour is an evolving science – one that has huge relevance to the world of interiors in which we all operate.

Of course, “colour me Rhubarb” is said slightly tongue in cheek but there is a nugget in there worth exploring.
Rhubarb is purple/ pink/ burgundy red – colours of imagination, strength, energy, wisdom, love, compassion, playfulness. And although Rhubarb probably isn’t the dominant colour we would select for any environment, its accents in elements of upholstery always seem to provide a lift and a positivity.

We mentioned a couple of months ago that Mocha Mousse is the Pantone colour of the year for 2025. Rhubarb is a rather lovely complement to all those earth colours and shades.

And a quick look at a colour wheel will show that it is also a perfect contrasting partner for the Dulux selection for 2025 – True Joy.
